From mid-March to late September tradewinds ” Los Alisios ” begin to blow from the northeast swell and fall winter by providing a variety of conditions ideal for beginners and practitioners looking forward kite . For the rest of the year , the island still has good wind statistics and there are plenty of conditions for more advanced kiters.

Famara beach on the northwest coast of the island is the best place and is suitable for all levels, including advance.The 6 km sandy beach under ” Los Riscos ”  offer good winds and conditions, with a jump of soft coast and flat water on the inside . At the rear the most advanced kiters will find a wide range of wave conditions.

Famara Bay has recently become a favorite for kite surfers from all over Europe and the rest of the world. Despite the growing popularity of the bay remains relatively low occupancy especially compared with other legendary Spanish places like Tarifa. Despite the Playa de Famara is an ideal place for all levels of Kitesurfing it is highly recommended that beginners and intermediate kite take a course and learn to make the beach.

The urbanization of Playa Famara consists of approx . 200 semi-circular bungalows situated in the foothills of the beach overlooking the bay of Famara. It is located in the center of the bay within walking distance kitesurf area and the people. The complex has a bar / restaurant , mini grocery store .

The fishing village of La Caleta de Famara is located in the southern end of the bay and is dotted with whitewashed traditional Canarian houses and apartments. The village offers a good selection of tapas bars and restaurants with something for all tastes and budgets, including local tapas , fresh fish , pizza , etc. There are also several mini supermarkets and shops kiteboarding for essential supplies. Both places are situated in a pristine natural setting and will appeal to those who want to get off the beaten track and enjoy the rhythm of the Canarian life.
